The Rascal Wedge from O’Toole Equipment is a US-made, lightweight aluminum wedge that’s also a multi-tool. It’s built to replace the wooden door chock in your helmet and is easy to grab with gloved hands, whether it rides in your helmet or in a pocket on a lanyard. Patented and patent pending.

Watch it in action

One tool, six jobs

Door chock: holds doors open for hoselines, crews and stretchers.
Forcible entry: ridges on the top and bottom faces hold your progress. Gap the door with the Halligan and hold it with the wedge. When the gap is about as deep as the spanner opening, there’s room for the Halligan fork.
Gas shutoff: the large opening at the back fits gas valves.
Standpipe valve handle: the middle opening fits the stem of both major styles of standpipe valve, for when the wheel is missing.
Handline spanner: grips the lugs of common 1-3/4″ handline, appliance and adapter couplings to tighten a fitting, stop a leak or add hose.
Oxygen cylinder wrench: the narrow front opening opens and closes an O2 cylinder. Keep one in the jump bag to chock the door before the stretcher comes through.

Options

Color: red, orange, blue or black.
Magnets: high-temperature rated magnets let you stick the wedge to a metal door or jamb to keep it from latching behind you, to a hinge pin to hold a door that’s too high or low to chock, or to your Halligan or a jamb for reentry.
